The VA Lexington Health Care System in Lexington, Kentucky is recruiting for a Neuromuscular to serve as a full-time Neurology service physician. The position is accountable to the Chief of Neurology, for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Board-certified or board-eligible neurologist with expertise in neuromuscular medicine. Must be able to obtain / retain voluntary faculty position with University of Kentucky. ["Lexington VA Health HCS is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible neurologist with expertise in neuromuscular medicine to join our group of dedicated professionals. We are seeking a neuromuscular physician (fellowship trained in either neuromuscular medicine or clinical neurophysiology with dedicated electromyogram (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) training) who can make a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care, has a desire to work in a collaborative professional environment, and shows enthusiasm for ongoing process improvement. The duties of the staff neurologist shall include but will not be limited to: Responsible for conducting and overseeing others conduct of electrophysiologic studies, including EMG, nerve conduction studies in both inpatient and outpatient consult clinic settings. Participate in the ALS interdisciplinary consult and follow-up in-person clinic. Staff veteran patients in the outpatient general neurology consult and follow-up clinics. These outpatient general neurology clinics will include both in-person and virtual encounters. Provide inpatient neurology coverage including patients admitted to neurology service and inpatient consults from other services. The staff neurologist will enter progress notes in the institutional EHR after examining inpatients during rounds conducted on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Act as a \"surrogate\" for colleagues who are on leave and are temporarily unable to continue management of veteran patients who are under the care of the absent party. Voluntary faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology, College of Medicine, University of Kentucky (UK), to provide oversight of resident physician trainees and medical students. Receive calls for neurological consultation from the institutional Emergency Care Unit and other in-house locations, as needed. Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of neurologic care delivered to his/her assigned patients. Supervise and teach Neurology resident physician trainees and medical students, in accordance with the required faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology, UK College of Medicine. Participate in ongoing self- and peer-review activities to include Focused Professional Performance Evaluation, Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation, queries posed by the institutional Peer Review Committee, Joint Patient Safety Reporting queries, and any and all successors. Participate as a member of committees or sub-committees, as assigned by the Neurology Service Chief or the institutional Chief of Staff.
