What You Will Be Responsible For:
Performs as a team member in safe and effective patient monitoring care.
Ensures all telemetry cardiac monitor are accounted for.
Maintains the privacy of all patients.
Promptly admits and discharges patient on telemetry as ordered or per unit policy.
Enters patient data into the cardiac monitoring system.
Records rhythm strips every 6 hours, for changes, arrhythmias and as needed.
Recognizes lethal dysrhythmias quickly, accurately and alerts the RN immediately.
Demonstrates competencies in all procedures within scope of practice and as Appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
Communicates patient care or management problems to appropriate person.
Communicates effectively, to appropriate individuals to meet the needs of patients, family and the environment and reports to the RN.
Reports malfunctioning equipment to the RN, charge nurse and Bio-Med as needed.
Actively participates in: staff meetings, committees, mandatory in-services, and educational programs/offerings relevant to area of practice.
Demonstrates competency and recognizes own skills, abilities and limitations and is accountable for own actions.
Seeks/solicits help or guidance from resource person when appropriate.
Functions in a professional manner during emergency or crisis situations.
Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures and internal/external disaster plans.
Completes work on time.
Utilizes time clock/T&A to document attendance appropriately.
Uses proper notification for use of unscheduled personal leave time.
Utilizes the principles of cost containment by conserving equipment, supplies and personal time (including personal calls and personal visits)
DEPARTMENT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Keeps track of each telemetry monitor, recleans the unit between patients and stores the unit.
Keeps computer updated for admissions, transfers and discharges.
Answers phone and relays messages in a professional and prompt manner.
Maintains call log, report sheet and department log book.
Orders forms and office supplies as needed for monitor desk.
Keeps monitor tech desk and drawers tidy.
What You Will Need:
Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, which addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age appropriate needs of the patient populations served within the department.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Prior experience as Monitor Tech or Health Unit Coordinator preferred
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Successful completion of a Dysrhythmia Course
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
The Monitor Technician (MT) performs surveillance of arrhythmia monitoring under the direction of a
Registered Nurse (RN)) to meet the needs of patients who are on telemetry monitoring. The MT promptly
reports changes in cardiac rhythm to the charge RN responsible for the care of that patient
