This position as a MIT-EKG is under the Medicine Service - NCDSP (this is a VISN National Program) section. Evaluation and assessment of pacemaker and defibrillator device data from Veterans with home remote monitors. Work is accomplished from VA San Francisco, VA Washington DC, or remote location for the National Cardiac Device Surveillance Program. ***VIRTUAL MAY BE OFFERED FOR HIGHLY QUALIFIED APPLICANTS Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Independently performs pacemaker remote monitoring of Veterans with implanted pacemakers. Performs remote monitoring of normal transmissions for patients with Implanted Cardiac Defibrillators (ICD). Correctly diagnoses normal sinus rhythm and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation/flutter, atrial tachycardia, supraventricular/ventricular tachycardia. Evaluates device and rhythm management information such as atrial and ventricular long-term histograms, AF/AT burden, and automatic changes in pacing and sensing polarity. Differentiates different pacing modes. Independently recognizes pacemaker malfunctions such as failure to capture, change in capture thresholds, failure to sense, no pacing output, abnormal impedance measurements, and impending battery depletion. Creates reports for transmission encounters in both text-rich and pdf format and upload reports to the ICDPM user interface for viewing by all referring clinicians. Incumbent performs duties under direction of Director and Program Manager, National Cardiac Device Surveillance Program. With guidance from established operational protocols, the incumbent exercises responsibility and judgment in his/her interpretation of transmitted pacemaker data and notifying of abnormal findings. Abnormal findings, after initially identified by the incumbent, will be reviewed by the program Director when necessary.
