This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The Registered Nurse at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) is responsible for participating in a wide variety of specialized invasive cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, in the Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology/Structural Heart Lab, that assist in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Duties include but are not limited to: Clinical: 1. Circulates, assists, scrubs, and operates equipment for all the various Cardiac Cath/TAVR/EP Lab procedures and Echo Lab procedures. 2. Monitors patients during Cardiac Cath/EP/TAVR procedures, including continuous ECG and hemodynamic monitoring, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, response to medications, titration of vasoactive IV medication and treatments. 3. Documents patient data during procedures and maintains the procedure prolog. 4. Administers medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants, utilizing all safety precautions. 5. Administers moderate sedation with appropriate patient monitoring, assessment, and documentation. 6. Operates complex radiographic, angiographic, and digital recording equipment. 7. Maintains all radiation safety principles, and able to wear protective lead aprons and stand for prolonged periods. 8. Conducts quality control procedures on equipment. 9. Participates in Sheath removal post-procedures. 10. Follows strict adherence to sterile techniques, infection control, and safety practices. 11. Maintains knowledge of the IABP, function of a transvenous pacemaker, and new technological equipment added to the Cath Lab. 12. Transports patients pre and post procedure 13. Participates in maintaining a clean environment. 14. Performs all other duties assigned. Administrative: 1. Participates and functions independently with Cardiac Cath/EP/Structural Heart projects and QA. 2. Exports procedure reports and angiograms to referring hospitals and physicians. 3. Participates in the ordering and maintenance of adequate inventory. 4. Participates in the scheduling of Cath/EP/SH Lab patients and consult management. 5. Participates in policy and procedure formation, maintains current knowledge of the Joint Commission requirements significantly contributes to annual proficiency data. 6. Participates in assigned Hospital Committees and collegial teaching to staff outside of Cardiology. 7. Supports and enhances VAPAHCS core values. 8. Participates in case management of the Cath/EP/SH Lab patient population i.e. ensures appropriate use of outpatient services, provides pre and post Cath/EP/SH patient education, maintains Cath/EP/SH data bases, establishes and maintains excellent relationships with referring physicians and their staff. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 6:30 pm, 8- or 10-hour shifts, depending on availability and flexibility to meet patient and program needs. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
