The Nurse Practitioner in Nuclear Medicine Cardiology is a professional advanced practice nurse who, as a result of education and in-depth clinical knowledge and experience in Cardiology and Cardiac Stress testing, has the primary role of ensuring the safety of the patient pre/post and during the performance of a cardiac stress test.   Working independently, this individual will perform cardiac stress testing on Adult/Pediatric patients in the Nuclear Medicine Cardiology area of the Cardiovascular Care and Prevention Center, and other sites as needed. The incumbent works in collaboration with the patient’s referring provider to ensure appropriate stress testing. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for pre-assessment of the patient, consenting the patient, or if a Pediatric patient, obtaining consent from the parent or guardian. The incumbent will monitor the patient throughout the test, and in recovery, and is responsible for the completion of all documentation. The Nurse Practitioner will provide urgent care and appropriate follow up to patients experiencing acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias or other post-test complications using guidelines from the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology.  The testing includes performing exercise and pharmacological stress testing following advanced practice protocols.  Supervision of the technicians during the stress test is expected. 

A Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert advanced nursing care in their area of specialization.  They will be guided and follow the policies and standardized procedures, rules and regulations, requirement of supervision under CA statute, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing, Medical Staff, and any unique policies related to the provision of patient services. In California, nurse practitioners (APRNs) can practice, bill, and provide independent health care services under a standardized procedure in collaboration with a supervising physician.
 

Required Qualifications

• Three to five years experience as a nurse practitioner
• Five years experience in cardiology
• In-depth physical assessment skills and ability to respond to patient clinical emergencies.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong computer skills using MS Office, Windows, Internet, databases.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
• Ability to read and interpret 12 lead EKG’s.
• California driver’s license (CDL) is required for the position.         
• Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
• Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
• Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California within the credentialing and privileging process period. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and have evidence of transfer
• by 90th day of clinical practice).
• Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
• Must be eligible for payer enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
• Must hold current AHA BLS and ACLS as a minimum requirement 
• State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
• This position requires UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation, flexibility for the provider to work at all UCSF Health licensed facilities.
